Common questions

What files should I have ready?

Podwobble brings your audio and artwork together. You can start with a built-in template or prepare a design with your designer or ChatGPT.

  • Finished episode audio (required). Bring the complete recording your audience should hear, including music and edits. MP3, WAV or M4A works well. This is the only audio included in the exported video.
  • Host images. Bring a photo or illustration for each host you want to show. Square images with room around the face work well for circular crops.
  • Separate host recordings (for voice animation). Export one file per host containing only their voice. Use the same start time, edits and full length as the episode, keeping silence when they are not speaking. A recording with the silent gaps removed will not line up. Ask your audio editor for these files if you do not have them.
  • Logo (optional). A separate PNG with a transparent background is easiest to position.
  • Background image (optional). Bring a PNG or JPG with room for host images, waveforms and captions, or use a template and the built-in colours.

With one host, you can start with just the episode audio. A separate voice recording keeps music from driving their animation. Each additional host needs their own recording to react to their voice. Podwobble does not split a mixed episode into individual voices.

Add audio and host images in Voices, then your background and logo in Look. Keep the logo and host images separate from the background so you can move them for each video format. After arranging your design, choose Save look for new videos to reuse it next time.

What should I ask my designer or ChatGPT for?

Copy this brief and add your show name and preferences:

Create artwork for my podcast videos in Podwobble. Ask me for my show name, audience, brand colours, mood and video formats. Deliver a background image for each format I choose: 9:16 (1080 × 1920), 16:9 (1920 × 1080), 1:1 (1080 × 1080) or 4:5 (1080 × 1350). Leave clear space for host portraits, animated waveforms and readable captions, with important artwork away from the edges. Keep host portraits and my logo out of the background; supply them as separate files, with a transparent PNG for the logo. Use PNG or JPG for backgrounds and portraits. Podwobble will add the animation, text and captions.

How do I get Pro on another computer?

Downloaded from this website: install that version on the other computer, open Podwobble Pro… and enter the license key from your Polar purchase email. One key works on up to 3 computers at a time, Mac or Windows in any mix. To free a place, deactivate a computer in the app or your Polar account.

App Store version: sign in to the App Store with the Apple ID used to buy Pro. Open Podwobble Pro… and click Restore purchase.

Purchases do not transfer between the direct-download and App Store versions. Use the same version on your other Mac. Both versions offer subscriptions and Lifetime.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Bought through Polar: cancel in your Polar account.

Bought through the App Store: manage your subscription with Apple:

  • Open the App Store, click your name, then Account Settings, and go to Subscriptions. Choose Podwobble Pro and cancel.
  • Or open System Settings, click your name, then Media & Purchases, and manage your subscriptions from there.
  • Or open apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions in your browser.

For App Store subscriptions, cancel at least 24 hours before renewal. For Polar subscriptions, cancel before your next renewal. Pro stays on until the end of the period you’ve paid for. After that, new exports return to 1080p with a watermark. Existing videos are unchanged. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel a subscription. Lifetime is a one-time purchase, so there’s nothing to cancel.

What do I need to run Podwobble?

Mac: Apple silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 13 Ventura or later. Intel Macs aren’t supported.

Windows: Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, on an Intel or AMD processor (most PCs from 2015 on). Windows on Arm isn’t supported yet. Windows is direct download only, without an App Store version.

Editing, transcription and export work offline. Buying or restoring Pro requires a connection; direct-download Pro also needs a successful license check at least every 14 days.

Windows won’t let me open the installer

The Windows installer isn’t code-signed yet, so Windows is cautious with it the first time.

  • If you see Windows protected your PC, click More info, then Run anyway.
  • If it won’t open at all, right-click Podwobble-Setup.exe, choose Properties, tick Unblock at the bottom of the General tab, click OK and open it again.

You only do this once. Podwobble installs for your account (no admin password) and updates itself from then on.

Which languages can it transcribe?

English only. Podwobble transcribes with whisper.cpp and an English speech model that comes with the app and runs entirely on your computer.

For a show in another language, bring in captions you already have: in the Captions step, click Import SRT/VTT….

For the best transcript, if you’ve added a host’s separate voice recording, pick it under Transcribe from. A clean voice track catches far more words than a mix with music under it.

Where are my projects saved?

Each project is a single .podwobble document. Importing your first audio creates it in Movies/Podwobble on a Mac, or Videos\Podwobble on Windows, and saves changes automatically. Projects you open from another folder stay there.

A project holds copies of the audio, recordings and images it uses, so you can move it, back it up or copy it to another Mac as one file. To find the one you’re working on, click the project name at the top left and choose Show project in Finder. Recent projects are listed on the start screen, and double-clicking a .podwobble document in Finder opens it.

On Windows a project is a folder ending in .podwobble. Choose File › Open… and pick that folder, and use Show project in File Explorer to find it.

Exported videos are saved separately, to the folder you pick in the export sheet.

What’s the mark on my videos?

Free exports carry a small pill in the bottom-right corner with the Podwobble logo and name. Free includes unlimited projects and exports in every format at 1080p. Pro removes the watermark and adds 2K and 4K export.

Podwobble Pro removes it from new exports. To see the options, click the mark on the preview, click Remove it… in the export sheet, or choose Podwobble Pro… from the Podwobble menu.

Does Podwobble need an internet connection?

Editing, transcription, exporting and saving happen on your computer. The direct-download app goes online to check for updates and, if you have a Pro key, to activate and validate it with Polar. After a successful license check, Pro can work offline for up to 14 days; reconnect to validate it again. The App Store version uses Apple for purchases and restoring Pro. Your audio, artwork and project files are not uploaded. More in the privacy policy.
